2012 The Natural History of Costa Rica

We received an overwhelming response to our Costa Rica trip and have filled it with 26 Friends of Retzer Nature Center. The trip will be led by Dr. David Block, Professor Emeritus of Carroll University and our own Larry Kascht. Included in the trip are stops at Poas Volcano National Park on our way to the Tirimbina Rain Forest Reserve for birding, taking a boat trip, visiting a Coffee Plantation and Chocolate factory, and ziplining. The next stop is at Arenal Volcano National Park and overnighting there, and on to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Field Station. The trip finishes up at the Manual Antonio National Park on the Pacific before returning to San Jose and flying home. There has been planning meetings for those going on the trip. The group will departed on February 22nd, 2012.

2009 Field Trip to the Crane Foundation

In October 2009, a group of the Friends took a bus to the Crane Foundation near Baraboo, WI. We had a guided tour and saw cranes from around the world. It was amazing to see all the cranes up close. There are some very large and beautiful birds. We learned how the Crane Foundation is working to save many endangered cranes all over the world. All agreed that it was a fun and educational trip.
