Retzer Facilities and Grounds

Retzer Nature Center Visitor Center – the visitor center includes an impressive exhibit area (featuring a new Prairie Underground diorama), a gift shop, the Charles Z. Horwitz Planetarium, a volunteer work room, and a meeting room for various planned events. The Waukesha County Recycling Program will move its educational program into the facility by 2017.

Retzer Nature Center grounds – The nature center covers over 450 acres of woodland and prairie, and boasts an extensive trail system with access to unique areas of natural habitat and interest. This system includes a paved handicapped accessible Adventure Trail highlighting Wisconsin flora and fauna. To date, much of the natural prairie has been restored to its pre-farming state. Annually, more than 25,000 people visit Retzer to hike its outdoor trails, tour the visitor center, and participate in environmental education programs. This number includes more than 5000 school students who annually attend such programs as pond, insect, prairie and animal adaptation studies.
